Luna County Depot Remodel
This project consists of renovating the interior and exterior of the historic Deming Depot, built in 1881. The building is approximately 4,500 sq. ft. It was cut in half, and trucked to its current location where it sits on a new concrete foundation. The existing structure consisted of wood stud walls, wood roof trusses and wood floor joists. The entire building is clad with wood siding. Although not eligible for nomination to the Historic Register, the intent of this project was to maintain the historic integrity of the building. Exterior work included replacing woodwork that was unsalvageable, patching wood to remain, removing all paint and repainting, replacing the roof system, adding a wood deck, replacing windows and installing building lights. The interior houses a 100-seat auditorium with a sloped floor and a raised platform. Two classrooms, restroom’s, a lobby, a ticket office and a janitor’s closet are also included in the new interior work.

Luna County Entertainment Center - Starmax Deming
White Sands Construction, Inc. served as the prime contractor for this project that involved design and construction of an American Family Entertainment Center (AFEC) in Deming, New Mexico. The family-oriented 45,000 S.F. facility was designed to provide multiple entertainment venues in a single facility including: six movie theaters; sixteen bowling lanes; 18-hole miniature golf course, arcade, sports bar, concession stands and multiple men’s and women’s restrooms. The exterior of the structure is concrete masonry units (CMU) with the exception of one end of the building, which was constructed with metal studs and stucco finish in order to facility future expansion. A slab-on-grade foundation was used. The roof is a single-ply thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) system. Individual spaces for several of the venues were created using metal studs faced with sheet rock on both side. The movie theaters were constructed of sound board with fabric walls. Floor finishes varied based on the venue and included carpeting, vinyl composition tile, ceramic tile and specialty flooring such as highly finished wood flooring in the bowling areas. Ceilings are hard surface in most areas for sound control. A second story was constructed that provides equipment rooms and offices. The 150,000 S.F. parking area was constructed of concrete and, due to the size of the lot, included a pond for the collection of water run-off.
