- The scope of work for this project includes construction of the Regional Headquarters Building for the Immigration and Naturalization Service. The facility, which will be leased by INS upon completion, is a 10,000 square foot single-story masonry structure with stucco over masonry feature wall extending the length of the property and creating the effect of dividing the structure. Elements of work included: substantial site grubbing and grading; over-excavation and backfill with select fill and compaction; concrete curb and gutters and drive approach ramps; above and below grade site utility extensions; parking lots; new wrought iron infill decorative fence panels; new security crash gates for intruder protection; new chain link fencing and gates; and xeriscaping landscape features. Building elements include: cast-in-place concrete foundation and slab-on-grade with select areas receiving colored concrete; structural steel and masonry walls; new upper and lower cabinets with solid surface countertops; built-up roofing system complete with fascia, soffit, gutters and downspouts; new Kalwall® skylight system for energy conservation; hollow metal and wood frames and doors including security doors; double-glazed and bullet-proof glass with stainless steel deal trays; steel stud framing and gypsum wallboard; acoustical suspended and hard surfaced ceilings; painting; epoxy painted walls and floors; ceramic wall and floor tile; vinyl composition tile, sheet vinyl, linoleum and athletic flooring; vinyl cove base; and, raised computer flooring and walk-off mats. Complete mechanical, electrical, communications, fire and security alarm systems were installed. The project included a state-of-the-art security system including computers, monitoring systems and underground and above ground sensing devices. Three types of fire suppression were installed including wet pipe, FM 200 (halon) and glycol. Other elements included toilet partitions and accessories, lockers, benches, gun racks and wall mounted crash guards. A new 10,500 GSF 1-story facility located in Carlsbad, New Mexico on a five acre site. The facility is lease to the General Services Administration and was designed to house the regional office of the United States Bureau of Customs and Border Protection. The building is constructed into two principal building pieces – an administration wing which provides an efficient comfortable workspace and a separate secure detainee/processing wing. The two areas are separated by a large architectural security wall. The administration area of the building has accommodations to house open and enclosed work spaces, secured public lobby, training / Munster room, workroom, break room and naturally day-lighted corridors. The secured area of the building has accommodations to house processing and holding cell areas. The building was designed by Dekker/Perich/Sabatini of Albuquerque, New Mexico and constructed by White Sands Construction of Alamogordo, New Mexico. The building is a single-story steel frame structure with exterior integral color CMU split face skin. The building provides natural day-lighting on the public side of the building with ballistic glass windows.
