Otero County Courthouse Remodel
The objective of this project was to remodel the first level of the exist jail to create 9,000 s.f. of new offices for the District Attorney. Execution of the work required demolition of the existing space to the structural elements. The new configuration houses private offices, conference rooms, waiting areas and open space for systems furniture. The existing structural columns within the area remained in place and were faced with gypsum wall board. Similarly, new walls were constructed using metal studs faced with sheet rock on one or both sides. Walls and structural columns in the common areas received wainscot on the lower portion and were trimmed with wood veneer strips. A conference room was constructed within the space using similar finishes. Semi-private work spaces were constructed by providing walls the same height as the wainscoting on the perimeter walls and were finished with wainscot with wood and wood veneer trim. Other finishes in these areas included surface mounted acoustical ceiling tiles and light fixtures. Carpeting was used throughout the private and public areas. A kitchen/break room was also created using a gypsum wallboard system, acoustical ceiling and vinyl composition tile flooring. Other work in the kitchen required installation of a sink, cabinets and countertops and required plumbing, ventilation and electrical features Separate men’s and women’s ADA compliant restrooms were constructed using hard surface walls and ceramic tile floors with toilet partitions and plumbing fixtures. Access to the offices was provided from the exterior through a newly created storefront entrance. This required demolition of an existing sally port that provided controlled access from the jail to the parking lot. ADA ramps were also provided. Repairs at the new opening also included stucco repairs and masonry infill. Building systems included: a boiler and chiller for the HVAC system, plumbing, communications and electrical.
